Saturday, August 2, 2025 saw the 1st team secure a thrilling 4-3 victory over Droylsden in the 2nd game of the NWCFL season.
Match Summary: In a seven-goal thriller at the DT Hughes Community Stadium, with a final score of 4-3, the home side, playing in front of 310 fans, got off to a dream start when Sam Smith found the back of the net just three minutes into the game. Maghull extended their lead thanks to a well worked goal from Darren Brannigan, giving them a comfortable 2-0 lead going into the break.
Maghull came out firing again early in the second half, with Nathan Peet scoring in the opening minutes of the half. Droylsden were reduced to 10 men on 48 minutes with the score at 3-0 and Maghull took full advantage as Nathen secured his brace with a truly spectacular long-range effort that left the Droylsden goalkeeper with no chance and Nathan with an early contender for Goal of the season!
Droylsden, however, refused to give up, and they began to mount a spirited comeback. Nellson Van pulled one back for the visitors, quickly followed by a goal from Kyle Campbell. The pressure continued to build on Maghull as Harry Shipton scored Droylsden’s third goal in the 83rd minute, setting up a nervy finish but Maghull held on to secure all 3 points and leave themselves 3rd in the table after 2 games against 2 of the stronger sides in the division.
